Title Associate Dean for Research Innovation

Information Penn State College of Medicine invites applications for the position of Associate Dean for Research Innovation and Director of the Office of Technology Development. The position is located in Hershey, Pennsylvania, and reports directly to the Vice Dean for Research and Graduate Studies. The Associate Dean for Research Innovation is responsible for leading the identification and development of innovative technologies as well as the commercialization of biomedical platforms at the College of Medicine and Penn State Hershey Medical Center. As director of the Office of Technology Development, the Associate Dean for Research Innovation will: develop strategies for technology commercialization and business development at Penn State Hershey; work with investigators to develop and identify intellectual property that merits patent protection and/or commercialization; provide leadership in formulation of policies and practices relating to intellectual property and technology commercialization; educate faculty, staff and students on ownership and intellectual property, as well as entrepreneurial activity; foster a culture of translation and dissemination of research results, as well as contribution to economic activity through constructive entrepreneurial activity and engagement with business; oversee work of office staff in obtaining CDAs, negotiating sponsored agreements, data transfer agreements, equity documents, and material transfer agreements; and conducting market research to identify corporate partners and potential licensees; develop and maintain strong connections to the life sciences ecosystem and investor community in promoting Penn State Hershey assets; represent Penn State Hershey among key regional, state and national economic development organizations and relevant industry and trade groups. Candidates will possess excellent leadership, management and communication skills, and have a proven track record in technology development, preferably within a university or academic health center environment. Candidates should also demonstrate advanced knowledge of, and experience in, IP management and license and research contract negotiation at a senior level, preferably within the life sciences.
