The Position In this newly-constructed role, the vice president will work in close concert with the campuses, and their academic leadership in particular, to secure a robust and coordinated array of programs across the System. The vice president will play a leading role in identifying and engaging with strategic institutional partners and will be charged with catalyzing the execution of an aggressive strategic plan. The vice president is the senior academic officer for the System. At present, it is anticipated that the position will headquarter in Springfield, Illinois, and will spend considerable time at the System’s various locations. Success in this new role requires a leader with considerable experience in academic affairs. Significant and successful experience in external relations is highly preferred, and superior communication and relationship-building skills and experience are required. An earned terminal degree is also required, as is experience building and executing strategic plans. Previous experience working with or for a university system is a distinct advantage, and experience with accreditation is preferred. The successful candidate will embrace the mission, values and ethos of Southern Illinois University and will demonstrate the personal qualities that enable strong, authentic and productive relationships and collaboration. This new vice president will have the opportunity to play a central role in the renaissance of this storied university system in the company of an engaged board and motivated leadership. The System Building on an illustrious history of teaching, research and service to its region, the Southern Illinois University System today is recommitting itself to excellence in all its pursuits. Under the leadership of President Daniel Mahony, who took office on March 1, 2020, the System will marshal the considerable resources of campuses in Carbondale and Edwardsville, a medical school headquartered in Springfield, a dental school in Alton and successful alumni around the world to secure and enhance the success of the whole. |
