Historical Virginia City Tour

9:30 am to 3:30 pm

Guests will be transported from Reno to beautiful Virginia City   Our Convention Activities guide will narrate and point out interesting sights along the way.

Established in 1859, Virginia City became the richest mining town in the world.  San Francisco was built from the mines of the Comstock and the Civil War was partially financed from the gold and silvers discovered beneath the city.

Today’s Virginia City is remarkably the same as it was during its heyday with wooden sidewalks, restored mansions, “Old West” saloons the Piper Opera House and mine tours.  Mark Twain began his illustrious writing career at Virginia City’s own “Territorial Enterprise.”  Your guests can visit numerous museums, shops, mansions and churches in this lovely city.

Guests will have plenty of time for some exceptional shopping.  Samples of “White Turquoise” found in Nevada and unique to the state can be found in Virginia City.  Also knows as “White Turquoise” or “Sacred Buffalo Turquoise”, Dry Creek Turquoise has a characteristic white or very pale blue color with brown flecks in it almost like confetti.  Because white turquoise is as rare as the white buffalo, it is sometimes referred to as Sacred Buffalo Turquoise. White turquoise was found in the Dry Creek Mine near Battle Mountain, Nevada. The mine is now closed.  This stone is very rare and collectible.

Lunch will be included for your group at a local restaurant.  A Trolley Ride ticket will be given to each guest to use during their free time.  The Trolley Ride is a 2 ½ mile, 20-minute narrated tour of Virginia City.

Guests may want to meander down to Grandma’s Fudge for something to satisfy their sweet tooth, enjoy free time for shopping, sightseeing or just people-watching. Or, guests can add on a visit to Mackay Mansion  a visit to the Fourth Ward School  or a ride on the Gold Hill Train for $10 (only one add-on permitted due to time).
