Position Overview:

The Manager of Innovative Ventures is a newly created position that will work with the WiSys team in managing startup and venture activity of the WiSys Technology Foundation. WiSys serves the UW System by supporting the creation and transfer of innovation from the University of Wisconsin – System to the marketplace and is a non-profit affiliate of the Wisconsin Alumni Research Foundation (WARF). This is an exciting opportunity to network across the state of Wisconsin and impact a wide variety of stakeholders.

This position will be responsible for:

  • Managing the process to evaluate startup opportunities from technologies created by UW System faculty and students, including working with the WiSys team and inventor to prepare deal terms, initial business plan, funding opportunities and/or additional resources for startups to thrive.
  • Managing and coordinating the WiSys VentureHomeTM centers program through setting startup goals and initiatives based on the UW System locations and assisting UW start-ups in getting proper legal and financial resources.
  • Forming relationships with venture capitalists and assisting with the management of a seed fund for startups.
  • Working with the WiSys team to evaluate existing non-UW partnerships for effectiveness and develop a strategy to jointly develop technologies with private and public entities leading to marketable products and job creation in Wisconsin.


We are seeking candidates with the proven experience in startup and venture development including the development, preparation, review, or execution of a wide range of business contracts and/or deal terms. Technology licensing, business development, contract negotiation, and/or commercial assessment experience is highly desired. Proven ability to demonstrate a collegial and cooperative nature to be able to work effectively with WiSys colleagues, UW-System faculty, researchers, and students as well as outside companies and entrepreneurs; strong awareness of faculty and early venture needs and university-wide policies; and strong verbal/written communication skills are required. A bachelor’s degree in a scientific or business related field required, while an advanced degree is preferred. Travel is required.
