Position Overview:

The University of Tennessee Center for Industrial Services (CIS) is recruiting a Director of Manufacturing Extension. The position reports to the Executive Director of CIS and is a member of the CIS Senior Leadership Team. CIS delivers a range of training and consulting services to manufacturers, small businesses, government agencies, and economic development organizations statewide. Services address customer needs in manufacturing excellence, economic development, procurement and technical assistance, health and safety, and energy and environmental management. The position is located at the CIS main office in Nashville, but may be located at one of CIS’s regional offices in Knoxville, Memphis, Jackson, Chattanooga, or Johnson City based on approval by the Executive Director.

Duties and Responsibilities:

The position directs the NIST Manufacturing Extension Partnership program in Tennessee (TMEP) and leads a team within CIS that delivers programs and services to business and industry across the state. The position serves as the CIS liaison with the national MEP network, which provides a comprehensive array of services to maximize productivity and efficiency and foster innovation to advance the nation’s manufacturing sector. In leading the CIS MEP Team, the position provides leadership for a team of program managers, consultants, and resources who serve customers across Tennessee; develops and maintains strong relationships with strategic partners, customers, and stakeholders; provides leadership for the development, promotion, and implementation of high quality CIS products and services; facilitates communication and collaboration across CIS teams and functional areas; represents CIS at university, state, and national events; and collaborates to effectively leverage the assets and resources of the UT system and its partners to assist business and industry.

Administratively, the position develops and manages team and program budgets; ensures that expenditures are within budget and meet university and grantor guidelines; develops and submits reports for the university and funding agencies; develops and manages performance expectations for team and team members; and ensures alignment with CIS and university policies and procedures.

Qualifications:

Education:

The qualified candidate will have a minimum of a Master’s degree.

Experience:


  • The qualified candidate will have a minimum of eight years demonstrated experience working with programs designed to promote growth and productivity of business and industry. Experience in working with manufacturers to address manufacturing needs is preferred.
  • The qualified candidate will have demonstrated supervisory experience leading a team to successfully achieve performance goals.

Location:

The position is located at the CIS main office in Nashville, but may be located at one of CIS’s regional offices in Knoxville, Memphis, Chattanooga, Jackson, or Johnson City based on approval by the Executive Director.

Each employee that drives a vehicle for work-related business must have and maintain a valid driver’s license.
