Position Summary

The Economic Development and Entrepreneurship (EDE) division at East Stroudsburg University is seeking an innovative and motivated professional to serve as Director of Career and Workforce Development. The Director will provide oversight and strategic direction for the development, implementation and assessment of programs, services and outreach efforts related to the Office of Career Development, ESU’s Professional Testing Center- Pearson VUE/ETS-Praxis, and the Workforce and Economic Development Network of PA (WEDnetPA) workforce training grant for PA based businesses. The Director will collaborate with students, faculty, staff, and alumni to ensure that an effective infrastructure is in place to prepare students for careers and professional success; work with regional workforce development organizations/businesses/industries to assess workforce training needs and placement opportunities; and become a certified administrator for the ESU Professional Testing Center and WEDnetPA.  The Director is responsible for budget oversight, strategic planning, grant management and for the creation and assessment of institutional effectiveness measures related to the University’s Strategic Plan and commitment to “students first.”

ESU’s division of Economic Development and entrepreneurship serves as the principal economic development and entrepreneurship extension of the University and is responsible for the: Business Accelerator, Entrepreneurial Leadership Center, Career and Workforce Development, Conference Services, Schisler Museum and McMunn Planetarium, Advancement, and the Center for Research and Economic Development (CFRED). Essential Duties, Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Lead a career and workforce development team in the creation, implementation and assessment of innovative initiatives that directly impact student transition from the classroom to professional careers.
  • Provide oversight and strategic leadership to ensure that career and workforce development programs, services and learning opportunities reflect a culture of diversity and inclusion.
  • Manage the ESU Professional Testing Center and become a certified administrator: ETS-Praxis, Pearson VUE, Accuplacer, College Level Evaluation Program (CLEP) and GED.
  • Manage workforce training programs including the Workforce and Economic Development Partner (WEDnetPA) business and industry training grants in compliance with funding guidelines.
  • Work with faculty to ensure that the career and workforce development programs are aligned with academic, industry and public/private sector employment expectations.
  • Assure that Career and Workforce Development initiatives are aligned with the National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) career readiness competencies: Critical Thinking, Oral/Written Communications, Teamwork/Collaboration, Digital Technology, Leadership, Professionalism/Work Ethic, Career Management, and Global/Intercultural Fluency.
  • Seek out collaborative opportunities to increase engagement in career and workforce development initiatives.
  • Serve as the institutional liaison to a variety of career and workforce training agencies.
  • Collaborate with the Alumni Office to engage alumni as career models and mentors, and to promote internship, entrepreneurship and employment opportunities.
  • Develop, manage and approve operating and personnel budgets associated with career and workforce development initiatives.
  • Engage business and industry partners in career and research opportunities, non-credit certificate programs, and industry specific licensure and certifications.
  • Build collaborative relationships with deans, faculty, students, employers, alumni, parents and industry partners.
  • Collaborate with the Department of Academic Enrichment and Learning (DAEL) to provide students with comprehensive services.
  • Identify, prepare and manage grants in support of career and workforce development programs, and services.
  • Approve external marketing/promotion campaigns and publications associated with department programs and service offerings in collaboration with University Relations.
  • Effectively utilize and assess the engagement and impact of career and workforce development platforms including Handshake, Big Interview, Focus2, etc.

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • A Master’s Degree from an accredited college or university.
  • A minimum of 5 years or more of higher education experience working in career and workforce development.
  • A minimum of 5 years or more experience in strategic planning, program development, and assessment.
  • Proven experience managing professional testing center operations and services.
  • Proven experience and success in securing and managing workforce development grants and training programs.
  • Proven ability to manage career and workforce development services including exploration, implementation, assessment, job search and placement.
  • Effective communication both verbal and written.
  • Demonstrated experience preparing and presenting reports including First Destination Surveys.

 

Preferred Skills:

  • National Career Development Association (NCDA) Certification.
  • Experience working with collective bargaining units.

Preferred qualifications may be used to further reduce the pool of applicants to those who are most highly qualified.
