Concurrent Session – Aligning Degree Programs with Workforce Needs

Speakers: Matt Colvin – Director of Economic Development, University of Georgia
David Tanner – Associate Director, Carl Vinson Institute of Government, University of Georgia
Marti Venn, PhD – Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs, Board of Regents-University System of Georgia

Employers continue to be challenged to find the talent they need to fill available jobs, yet the need for a college educated workforce has never been greater. The University System of Georgia’s recent changes to how it reviews and approves new academic degrees is a helpful case study in how degree authorization can be used to emphasize and operationalize governing board policy objectives like workforce development. This session will highlight the process changes and data analytics that have been developed to help institutions in developing and proposing new majors.
