Position Description

The assistant director supports and promotes the Center for Regional Development’s (CRD) mission of improving the lives of residents of northwest Ohio through economic and community development.   The position assists the Senior Director with both short-term and long-term strategic planning and decision-making by identifying and providing needed information and professional advice.  The position also requires implementing the Senior Director’s plans and decisions and/or procuring necessary resources.  In doing so, the assistant director coordinates the conception, selection, design and completion and/or delivery of data and analysis, economic impact analysis, local and regional strategic planning, applied research, program evaluation, and other technical assistance projects undertaken by CRD, and is responsible for the implementation, coordination, and management of those activities. The assistant director is solely responsible for carrying out the majority of off campus program evaluation services to communities and social service/nonprofit organizations.

Essential Duties, Tasks and Responsibilities

  • Manage individual or joint projects at the administrative level in the areas of social service program evaluation and economic development (e.g., develop and oversee scope of work, timelines, and budget).  Conduct high-level quantitative and qualitative analysis to develop work products for clients and grantors.
  • Propose and develop prospective projects/programs (e.g., offer, review, and/or comment on project/program ideas, funding prospects, and other proposals regarding feasibility, appropriateness, effectiveness, and available resources (including staff, funding, equipment, etc.)  Collaborate with faculty and staff on projects and funding opportunities.
  • Participate in community and public meetings to represent BGSU and CRD as well as identify potential partnerships and funding opportunities for CRD and BGSU faculty.
  • Serve as acting director during the senior director’s absence. This includes attending meetings, making presentations and handling the senior director’s day to day operational duties at the center.
  • Serve as the liaison with CRD graduate assistants and manage recruitment, contracting, and work allocation functions.
  • Participate in Division of Research and Economic Engagement planning meetings, CRD strategic planning, budget, and staff meetings.
  • Assist in the planning and execution of the annual State of the Region Conference and other regional events as part of CRD’s regional engagement mission.

Knowledge, Skills or Abilities

  • Knowledge of program evaluation techniques, particularly as they apply to social service program implementation.
  • Knowledge of economic development policies and practices in Ohio including tax abatement/credit programs, grant programs, and other tools available to support economic development.
  • Knowledge of grant writing resources and techniques and ability to assemble and coordinate multi-disciplinary project teams.
  • Interpersonal communication skills and ability to foster partnerships with external and internal stakeholders.
  • Ability to conduct applied research, data compilation/analysis, data visualization, project administration, oral presentations, and report writing in the area of community and economic development.
  • Ability to effectively manage personnel with sensitivity to budget realities.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

Master’s degree in economics, public administration, political science, business administration, public policy, or related field.  Successful candidate must have Master’s degree conferred at the time of application.

The following experience is required:

  • 2-3 years of grant writing experience.  Experience in program evaluation grant writing preferred.
  • 2-3-years of research and report writing experience.  Experience with data visualization and economic impact analysis preferred.
  • 1-2 years of economic and/or community development project management or planning experience.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

Ph.D. in economics, public administration, political science, business administration, public policy, or related field.

Salary
Full-time, grant-funded administrative staff position available. Administrative Grade Level 356. Salary is commensurate with education and experience. Full benefit package available.
