Information Outreach and Online Education is seeking a strategic-minded individual with financial management experience to lead the Penn State Small Business Development Center (SBDC). As one of more than 800 SBDCs nationwide, the Penn State SBDC serves Centre and Mifflin counties by helping pre-venture, startup, and existing small businesses. It also serves student entrepreneurs, researchers interested in commercialization, and community entrepreneurs.

This position reports directly to the Executive Director of Professional and Community Education and is responsible for the management and operation of the SBDC in accordance with all applicable policies, procedures, laws, regulations, and other governing documents. The Director ensures that all performance expectations are met while supervising a staff of six. The Director prepares proposal for funding, manages and monitors the budget, and ensures budget targets are met. Developing partnerships and collaborations is a critical element of the position.

The ideal candidate will have experience working with an SBDC, knowledge of entrepreneurship and small business development, experience managing grants and contracts, the demonstrated ability to develop collaborations, and strong written and oral communication skills. Typically requires a Master’s degree or higher plus four years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Master’s degree in business management, marketing, accounting, finance, or economics is preferred. Excellent computer skills is required and experience working with a CRM is preferred. We value candidates who are forward-thinking, open-minded, and flexible. Requires some evening and weekend work. Travel is required. This is a fixed-term appointment funded for one year from date of hire with excellent possibility of re-funding. We seek candidates who are able to demonstrate experience and ability to advance Outreach and Online Education’s diversity initiative.
